As some of you may have heard by now, Microsoft has chosen to end the support of the Windows XP Operating System and Microsoft Office 2003 on April 8th 2014. This is due to the Support Lifecycle policy (2002) and states that Microsoft Business and Developer products like Windows and Office, will receive a minimum of 10 years of support at the supported service pack level.

As such, back in July 2010 they ended support for Windows XP Service Pack 2, and now that the most current version of XP (Service Pack 3) won’t be receiving support it means Windows XP as a whole will now not be getting any more support ever! Of course, this is problematic to many businesses that are still currently using the Windows XP operating system and Office 2003 product on their systems. This is because that without support there will be no more new security updates, non-security hot fixes (bug fixes) and no paid/free assisted support options available from the 8th April 2014 and onwards.

Systems Will Become Insecure

Therefore, businesses or even any computer running Windows XP could have a massive security risk after this date as it is more than likely that people will start to develop ways to break through security weaknesses present in the operating system, and without the support of Microsoft there won’t ever be an official fix to these potential exploits, leaving your computer systems at risk. There will also be less support from independent software vendors and hardware manufacturers as they will also be unlikely to support Windows XP on their newer hardware and applications that they create. It’s already been shown in research that a large majority of computer manufacturers have stopped supporting Windows XP on most of their new PC models.

Overall, this all means that for your computer systems running Windows XP to be secure and safe, they all need to be upgraded to a newer version of Windows such as Windows 7 or Windows 8 to ensure continued support and security for your machines, which for a business is one of the most important things to have. But don’t panic, because you’ve came to the right place!
